Gjusta | Venice, CA
Yesterday I had the pleasure of stopping at Gjusta for lunch. I had been to Gjelina several years ago, but this was my first time at their offshoot-daytime outpost. It wouldn't be hard to make fun of Gjusta. The place is oozing with hipness - on both sides of the counter. It would seem that every person inside has meticulously crafted their outfit to say, "I didn't try".
The space is the epitome of 2010s-trendy. It's white washed. The counters are marble. The fixtures are antique, but almost definitely not original to the building.
And, despite all of this, there is no time to be a hater because it has all been done so well.
I ate a roasted veggie sandwich on baked-in-house sourdough and a side of roasted potato salad and sat at a community table with a fairly accomplished screenplay writer and an aspiring actress from Turkey.
